The School is run by a team of four experienced and hard-working professionals. Here you can find out about each of them and the roles that they perform. These are the people that help to make the school what it is.
Taking on the role as new headteacher at Sandside Lodge School has been an honour for me; having had previous leadership experience at an outstanding special school in Liverpool.
I have been teaching for twenty three years and previously worked for Liverpool local authority.
The students are at the heart of everything at Sandside Lodge and it is my role to ensure that they receive education of the highest standard and develop independence, resilience and confidence in all areas of their lives. I am committed to working with families to provide an holistic approach to everything we do in school.
I joined the leadership Team at Sandside Lodge in September 2015 and I am proud to be part of such a fantastic school. ‘The child at the heart of all we do’ is a philosophy that is reflected across all areas of the school where every member of our community values each other as individuals and works together as a Team.
My role enables me to contribute to the running of the school whilst maintaining a teaching role and means direct contact with our pupils. A key responsibility for me is safeguarding which takes priority above all else. We work hard to ensure our pupils are safe and happy in school, this includes our recruitment processes, internet safety, visitors to site and the daily wellbeing of pupils and staff. Everyone looks after each other at Sandside Lodge.
Prior to a teaching career I worked as an outdoor pursuits instructor and developed a love of the outdoors. My teaching history is based in Cumbria; I began as an SEN instructor at Newton Rigg College teaching agriculture and after gaining my Certificate of Education I worked as an SEN Lecturer at Kendal College. I worked in a number of primary schools in the county to achieve my Qualified Teacher Status before taking up a teaching position at Sandgate School in Kendal where I worked for 10 years before moving to Sandside Lodge as Deputy Headteacher.
I joined Sandside Lodge School in 2003 having previously taught Humanities and Outdoor Education at a secondary school in Barrow since 1993. Prior to entering teaching I have had a varied career as a Deputy Manager of a Waitrose Supermarket and as an Outdoor Instructor.
I thoroughly enjoy working at Sandside Lodge School as reflected by the number of years I have been here. I enjoy the pupils enthusiasm for all that we do, particularly the learning that takes place outside the classroom.
The majority of my teaching at Sandside Lodge has been in the sixth form where I was class teacher until 2014. It has been very satisfying to watch as pupils develop in preparation for leaving school and moving on to post 19 providers.
Since 2014 I have been Assistant Head and SENCO which has brought me into contact with all parents and pupils across the school, which has widened my knowledge and understanding of the needs of our pupils.
