All pupils attending Sandside Lodge School have a statement of Special Educational Needs or Educational Health Care Plan maintained by the Local Authority, and as such the LA is the admissions authority for our school. All pupils' statement or EHCP provides details of their severe or profound learning disabilities, and other impairments or difficulties they may have. Our pupils variously have physical disabilities, sensory impairments, communication and language difficulties, complex health and medical needs or autism.
Details of admissions arrangements can be found via the Cumbria CC website. Responsibility for maintaining statements of SEN or EHCPs is held by Children's Services, Inclusive Learning.
Sandside Lodge School caters for pupils that live in the South Lakeland and Furness Peninsula Areas. The majority of our pupils come from the west of the school; from Dalton, Askam, Millom as well as Ulverston itself. We do have a number of pupils from Barrow in Furness, but these are from outside of our catchment area and attend because of parental preference. A few pupils come from the Coniston and Windermere areas and we can take children from as far east as Cartmel, Grange and Newby Bridge.
The vast majority of our pupils are transported to school by County Council arranged transport, tendered to local taxi hire companies. Taxis are limited to certain routes at designated times. With the support of our pupil's parents we are able to offer an extended school curriculum which includes a range of lunchtime, after school and holiday activities. For further detail see information under Clubs and Events.
